First off, if you haven't read this yet, please do so. It had previously been f-locked, but I suppose locking it defeats its own purpose.
So I learned something tonight. (From a lot of people, btw.) Apparently it's okay for everyone to talk about not being Christian, but when I talk about being a Christian we must move on as quickly as possible. And when one person explicitly expressed that they were uncomfortable with the subject matter, I stopped talking about it. But apparently when I express that I am not comfortable with someone cursing my God, it's unreasonable for me to request that they not say "fuck God" when I am present. (And I apologize to the one person that applies to; it merely fits the theme of what I'm trying to say.) I finally got up the courage to talk about a subject that means something to me to people I've been afraid to be real with about it for so long, and they all absolutely did nothing but confirm and justify my fears. Thanks, guys. If you didn't want to talk about Christianity, maybe you shouldn't have brought it up. So now I'm being a pussy and posting this in my journal instead of just saying it in chat, because you've all made it perfectly clear that my opinion on this matter doesn't count. And if my opinion on one of the most important things in my life doesn't count, then I don't need to hang around. Give me some time, maybe I'll be back in a few hours. But maybe I won't.
EDIT: If you feel the need to comment about this, don't say anything about any people except for me or yourself. This is "validate my frustration", not "validate me thinking people are jerks". I don't think people are jerks. I just think they don't get how this makes someone in my position feel, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof.
MORE EDIT: On a completely unrelated to tonight note, I hate when people throw the argument at Christians about how "I don't try to convert you, don't try to convert me!" Well gee, could that be because your holy book/guidelines/whatever makes you decide to live how your life DOESN'T TELL YOU TO? Because, ours does. Read the end of Matthew. I mean aside from the fact that a huge chunk of witnessing is done horribly, it's what the God we happen to believe in wants us to do.

Date: 2008-08-31 05:50 pm (UTC)Myself, you can talk about Christianity all that you want. It doesn't bother me at all! :) I just don't know too much about it though but its always good to read and learn!

Date: 2008-08-31 06:09 pm (UTC)I don't believe in converting people, because on the one hand I think it's rude, and on the other hand, I believe all religions (that aren't, you know, satanic) that believe in a god or many gods are all different pathways to worshiping the "true" god. I think our God is big enough that He/She could be separated into different smaller gods without damaging his/her image. Also, I don't believe God has a gender, but I don't want to say It, 'cause that seems to make God seem like a rock or a tree. And honestly, the only religion (that I'm aware of) that tells you NOT to convert everyone is Hindu. I really like the Hindu religion. They believe that if you believe in any God at all and follow that God, no matter what religion you are, you're Hindu. In any case, I think it's the Hindu religion. I get mixed up.
Anyway, I have no idea what this comment's about anymore. It started out as a response to your post, and now it's just kind of a "learn how fucked up feline_thespian's views of religion are" comment.
THIS IS SO RANDOM LOL
Date: 2008-08-31 06:17 pm (UTC)I think I do remember that the Koran (Islam's holy book) does have some sort of convert people command. My last paragraph was mainly towards atheists and agnostics because, in my own experience, that is who puts forth that argument most frequently. Operative words being "in my own experience" :)
And re: your last sentence, don't feel bad because I totally did that to you in my last OMG CHRISTIANITY post.
Here are your rightfully owed cookies! Google says they are shaped like puppies. But they actually remind me of when we were in stickam chat and poo had a bra on her head because it was a brown bra and it was shaped similarly to the "ears" here. LOL. So I guess it's quite appropriate that these are puppies hahahaha.
