Canoeing is scary
Aug. 10th, 2008 01:52 pmA couple months ago I signed up to go on a Canoeing trip. It got postponed like 4 times but finally happened yesterday. IT WAS SCARY.
Scary thing #1: We start paddling and we go through all these mangrove tunnels (which are actually REALLY cool) and there are little black crabs crawling all over the mangroves. You know, the kind that freaking look like spiders?!?!?! I was scared that they would fall into the canoe. But fortunately that did not happen. Also they were really only so dense through the first tunnel.
Scary thing #2: It started raining. Canoeing in the rain is actually kinda fun (although I do have a cold now grrr). Canoeing in the rain in a metal boat on open water when there is lightning is totally not fun!!!!! We had just exited a mangrove tunnel and our leader had us turn around and go back in. I still didn't feel completely safe but it was a lot better than being out in the open. I cried too. We were in there for like half an hour. OMG, WHAT IF THAT TUNNEL HAD THE CRABS TOO? HOLY SHIT. Just realized this. D: Anyway I got over the freaking out bit and was fine.
Scary thing #3: We were back on land eating our lunch, when I see what appears from far away to be a cute little puppy. Yeah, NOT A PUPPY. It was a freaking raccoon. I've been raised to believe that raccoons that appear during the day generally have rabies, so I was kinda surprised at how friendly and non-aggressive this one was. (This meant little to me bc HELLO RABIES.) Of course, everyone is all AWW LOOK AT THE CUTE WITTLE FAMISHED RACCOON and starts feeding it and stuff. Ugh.
Despite all that stuff it was a really good day and I had fun and I was surprised at how much I was able to be myself. Like, normally I am just shy and do not talk but I was pretty much normal. Yay!... I think =P
